BUT WHAT IS MATHEMATICS FOR?
YOU CAN ALSO FIND OUT WITH THE SUPPORT OF SEMANTICASE
As part of the activities for the Centenary of the CNR, on 24 October 2023 the headquarters ofMauro Picone Institute for Computing Applications in Rome organizes a morning for students entitled “But what is the use of mathematics?".
The initiative consolidates the Institute's commitment to ensuring that mathematics increasingly becomes a science interdisciplinary.
In fact, mathematics cannot be considered only as a specialized language for describing scientific theories.
Beyond its obvious theoretical value, its real contribution to progress lies in description and solution of real phenomena through mathematical formulas.
In other words, a correct use of mathematics helps to deal with complexity and design efficient solutions for any type of situation.
Within the rich program which will tell students about many applications of mathematics, the activity of the collective laboratory will also be presented "Abandon all hope, you who enter", where it was carried out a semantic analysis of some songs from the Divine Comedy.
A perfect example of interdisciplinarity.
Semantic analysis was performed using the software semantic case of Piazza Copernico, and is the result of collaboration with Mario Santoro (IAC-CNR), and Professors Lucia Magno and Sara Zuzzi (IIS Salvini From Rome).
