On February 21, 2024, the presentation conference of theItalian Open Innovation Lookout 2024 Observatory.
Beyond the many interesting contributions of the speakers, we want to focus on the chapter of the research dedicated to the Open Innovation players in Italy.
THE MAIN PLAYERS OF ITALIAN OPEN INNOVATION
The mapping led to the identification of 25 Service Provider categories.
Among the main OI Service Providers, first and foremost i Corporate Innovation Hub which represent approximately 40% of the market, secondly the OI consultancy firm with 16%. These are entities specifically oriented towards creating and disseminating innovative skills, offering services to businesses and promoting connections between all relevant stakeholders in innovation.
THE ROLE OF TRAINING INSTITUTIONS IN OPEN INNOVATION
The good news is that the mapping has intercepted our sector, which in recent times has also been moving a lot from an OI perspective.
Although still a minority, the sum of training players (institutions/companies, research bodies and universities) is one of the sectors recognized as innovative players.
However, the training institutions in the strict sense that have been mapped are only so by virtue of their participation in technological clusters in the role of trainers, coaches and consultants.
Without taking anything away from the excellent research work that was presented, unfortunately the investigation was evidently unable to intercept even small entities within the sample - such as PIAZZA COPERNICO – who have been moving around for years applied research from an Open Innovation perspective, and which also contribute to creating an innovative fabric in collaboration with research centers and universities.
